Preparing For AP Chemistry Free ResponseThis year's AP Chemistry Free Response assignment is relatively easy, since the subject matter is fairly standard. While there is a lot of importance placed on good writing, in terms of the course and the tests, it isn't always as important as the correct information. However, with the stress that students will be experiencing due to the impending midterms and finals, a good grasp of the AP subject is absolutely necessary for success in AP Chemistry Free Response.The topic of this year's AP Chemistry Free Response is springtime experiments. To prepare for this challenge, you should read and understand the syllabus and quizzes. While most of the course content is straightforward, it is important to recognize that this syllabus is just a framework for the tests. There are many additional questions, ideas, and concepts that are needed for successful test-taking and analysis.For the first test of the year, you will be presented with the concept of building systems. The syllabus does not go into great detail about this concept, but there are plenty of other questions to test this one concept. The other topics for the test include phytoplankton, crystals, aqua regia, sodium, potassium, water, etc. If you plan on taking several practice tests in order to improve your score, these other topics will need to be familiarized with prior to the actual test.The last of the three main topics for this year's AP Chemistry Free Response is crystallization. For the test, there are numerous written and oral challenges to test this topic. If you are eager to improve your score, you should prepare for all of these topics. In addition to reading the syllabus, you should also be sure to prepare for questions in advance. There are many questions that will only appear during the actual test that will give you a chance to improve your score.Another area that has been a focus of many AP courses is the concept of biomolecules. For the test, you will be presented with multiple chemical reactions, such as sulfur dioxide (S3) and hydrogen chloride (H2Cl). As with the previous concepts, you should prepare for all of these topics prior to taking the actual exam.As is true with most challenges, there are some aspects of the test that will not be covered on the syllabus. On those topics, you will need to look up the answer on the internet or at an AP textbook. Fortunately, there are many websites that contain multiple practice tests, which you can take in order to practice solving these types of problems.The last of the three main topics for the AP Chemistry Free Response is antimatter. This topic is covered in the practice tests for the past several years, and this year's syllabus does not go into great detail about this concept. Nonetheless, there are several test questions to test this one concept, and these tests are available on the Internet.
